Tawjihi is defined as Jordan’s General Secondary National Exam. This exam is mandatory by each student in the country because it is considered a minimum educational requirement to be able to enter a university in Jordan. Internationally schooled students are required to obtain a Tawjihi equivalency to this exam. In order to obtain equivalency, students must fulfil all graduation requirements of the International Independent School AND complete one of the following external examination options.


Option 1
Students must have passed a minimum of SIX IGCSE or O-Levels at Grade D or above plus a minimum of TWO A Levels at Grades A to E.

Literary Stream Scientific Stream
O-Levels: Two sciences + Arabic
A-Levels: Full Arabic + Full Literary subject
Or
Full Arabic + Two AS literary subjects
O-Levels: Two Sciences + Arabic
A-Levels: Full Math/ Physics + Full Science
Or
Full Math/ Physics + Two AS Sciences

Option 2
Students must complete a combined total of FOUR SAT Subject tests with scores of at least 450 on each SAT Subject test and the ACT examination with a minimum score of X.

Option 3
Students must complete a combined total of THREE AP (advanced placement) tests with scores of at least 3 on each AP test and the ACT examination with a minimum score of X.

Option 4
Students must complete a combined total of FOUR AP tests with scores of at least 3 on each AP test.

Option 5
Students must complete FOUR SAT Subject tests and TWO AP tests, with scores of at least 450 on each SAT Subject Test and at least 3 on each AP test.

Option 6
Students must complete TWO SAT Subject tests and THREE AP tests, with scores of at least 450 on each SAT Subject Test and at least 3 on each AP test.
SAT Subject Tests can be:

  • Any subject from the College Board Examinations.
  • Religion/ Islamic Studies (for Muslim students only) from the Ministry of Education’s National (tawjihi) subjects.
  • Arabic from the British Program or Tawjihi Program
To obtain Equivalency in the Tawjihi Science stream, students should:
  • Pass any TWO AP Exams from the following list: AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry or AP Biology with a minimum of 3 out of 5, and
  • Pass any THREE SAT II exams available with a minimum score of 450 and above
To obtain Equivalency in the Tawjihi Literary stream, students should:
  • Pass any TWO AP Exams with a minimum score of 3 out of 5, and
  • Pass any THREE SAT II exams available with a minimum score of 450 and above
Notes:
  • A Level Arabic is counted as one of the AP Exams
  • An AP Exam and a SAT exam of the same subject are considered two different exams (e.g. AP Chemistry and SAT Chemistry are considered two different exams)
  • SAT Math I and SAT Math II are considered two different exams.
  • Pharmacy and medicine requires a minimum GPA of 85.
  • Engineering requires a minimum GPA of 80
Further Note:
  • Before students can obtain the Tawjihi equivalency, they must provide the ministry with proof that they have completed 12 years of schooling. To calculate the Tawjihi equivalency GPA, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will combine 60% of the O-level marks and 40% of the A-level marks.
  • To calculate the Tawjihi equivalency GPA, the MOE will combine 40 percent of the ACT grade and 60 percent of the results on SAT II and/or AP exams.
  • To calculate the Tawjihi equivalency GPA for those students opting for options 5 and 6, the Ministry of Education will count the results on the SAT II and/or AP Exams only.
