GENERAL POLICY

The International Independent School accepts students regardless of gender, race, religion and/or nationality as long as they are of the required age, able to cope with the school programmes and satisfy all admissions requirements.
All students who are admitted to IIS are required to follow the school-offered curricula/ programmes.


ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AD PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS

The International Independent School considers any student who is at least three-years-old (pre-k) for admission at the beginning of any academic year providing they meet admission requirements set by the IIS for that academic year.
Admission into IIS and placement in classes is based on successful completion of all application procedures, submission of all required documentation, successful completion of entrance tests (appropriate to the grade level) and interview. Students are admitted based on the test results/ interview only and availability of seats.


ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES

The International Independent School shall only consider a student for admission after receiving all required documentation.
Admission preferences are on a first-come, first-served basis.


ADMISSIONS TESTING

All students regardless of age or grade must sit an admission test after receipt of application. completing an application for admission to IIS is not a guarantee of an entrance test. Students are invited for testing after their files have been reviewed.
Only after a successful test will students be invited for an interview. An interview is not a guarantee of successful placement.


AVAILABILITY OF PLACES

Places are dependent on availability. IIS reserves the right to close admissions if a class is full.


RE-ADMISSION OF STUDENTS

The International Independent School shall not accept any students who were asked to leave the school for academic reasons before three academic years from the time they were asked to leave. Students who were asked to leave for behavioural reasons cannot re-apply before two academic years and will require the approval of the board.
In both cases, reapplying students would have to meet IIS admission requirements, complete the application and pay registration fees.
Students who leave IIS due to reasons other than those outlined ABOVE must fulfil all the requirements of any student seeking admission, including commitment to procedures and timelines. They shall not be given preferential consideration.
IIS will only consider readmission if the student successfully passes the entrance requirements and if places are available.


LATE ADMISSION AND EARLY WITHDRAWALS

The board may admit new students after the academic year has begun on based on individual case and based on his/her consultation with the respective heads regarding available space and ability of the student to catch up with the missed materials.
The parents or legal guardians of students may withdraw their children from the school following the beginning of the academic year. Annual tuition and other fees paid by the parent or legal guardians are subject to the school’s refund policy.


CANCELLED ENROLMENT AND WITHDRAWAL

Parents/ guardians wishing to withdraw their children from IIS and/or cancel their enrolment must fill out a withdrawal for at the admissions office, mentioning the reasons for withdrawal and/or cancellation.


STUDENT TRANSFERS

Students transferring to other schools are provided with an official copy of their school records at the school provided the parents have fulfilled all their financial obligations to the school.
Requests by other schools for student references are treated confidentially and will be forwarded to the new school by IIS and not handed to the student concerned or parent and/or family representative.


MID-YEAR ADMISSIONS

It is preferred that students enrol at the beginning of the school year; however, IIS recognizes that sometimes students may need mid-year admittance. In such cases, IIS will admit the student if they have passed the required entry tests, submitted completed applications and places are available.


ACCEPTANCE OF RECORDS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS

The International Independent School shall accept records from other schools provided they fulfil the following conditions:

  • The records carry the official seal and signature of the school the student attended.
  • The records are provided by a school recognized by either an accrediting agency or a governmental body.
  • The records are complete in terms of information provided for the entire previous period in which the student attended school.


SPECIAL NEEDS AND LEARNING SUPPORT STUDENTS

THE STUDENT BODY OF THE IIS INCLUDES 5% OF STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DIFFICULTIES. THE STUDENTS SHOULD NOT HAVE MAJOR DISABILITIES AND DEPENDING ON THE INTERVIEW DONE DURING REGISTRATION, THE STUDENT IS ACCEPTED BY THE PRINCIPLE AND COUNSELLOR. STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED WITH A SHADOW DURING SCHOOL DAYS.


IIS AND THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

IIS adheres to the Ministry of Education rules and regulations for admissions, promotion, retention and/or termination.


AMENDMENTS TO ADMISSION POLICY

IIS reserves the right to amend the admissions policy at any time during the academic year and/or waive policy inclusions. Amendments to and waiving of policy inclusions requires the permissions of the IIS Board.
