The International Independent Schools (IIS) provides a high-quality British based education for students. The IGCSE/GCSE/A-Level are school-leaving certificates in Britain comparable to the Tawjihi in Jordan. These certificates are offered by Edexcel and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and they have international credibility as educational qualifications.

Based on the British system, students of the Senior School, in Grades 9 and 10, follow syllabuses in a range of subjects by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and by the University of London (Edexcel), preparing them for International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations. These examinations are set, moderated and marked by the examining boards of the universities.

The student program at this level includes compulsory study and examination of English Language, Mathematics, and Arabic together with further subjects chosen from a range including Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Information Technology.

After successfully completing at least six examinations at this level, students move on to the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) program. This contains a further two years of study according to syllabuses laid by the aforementioned universities, Cambridge and the University of London.

Normally, students will take two or three subjects at this level, but there is provision for them to take four if they wish. In Grade 11, students follow Advance subsidiary ‘AS’ components, representing half of the ‘A’ level course and in Grade 12 they follow ‘A2’ components, focusing on the other half of the ‘A’ level course.

Students from this program proceed to attend universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Lebanon and Jordan.

  1. Standardized Testing

    As mentioned, students begin their journey in the British program from the 9th grade. In the 10th grade, they are required to sit for GCE/IGCSE External exams, which include the accumulative knowledge of subjects from the 9th grade.

    Seven subject are mandatory for students to sit in as a requirement for the Tawjihi equivalency.

    These subjects are:
    1. Biology
    2. Chemistry
    3. Physics
    4. Mathematics
    5. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
    6. Arabic
    7. English

    In the 11th and 12th grades, students must sit for the A-level courses by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Choice of subjects depends on student’s preference and outlook to their future choice of career.

    *Deadlines of late entries are scheduled according to the British Council’s announcements.
